AP Exam Updates
The College Board has announced that this school year, students will take their Advanced Placement (AP) exam(s) either in person using a paper/pencil format or at-home digitally, depending on the course. Students will be able to take the digital exams using their FCPS issued laptops or personal desktop/laptop computers. Smartphones/Ipads/personal chromebooks may not be used for 2021 digital AP Testing. We understand that during this challenging school year, students may want to cancel their AP exams. Students can cancel an AP exam this school year without penalty.
- Canceling AP exams when enrolled in the course: If a student is currently enrolled in the course and paid for an exam, complete this form to request a refund by May 3rd. Because this form goes to the county, you will also need to contact Lisa Broadhead, our Assessment Coach so that the exam can be cancelled. If you do not need a refund, just contact our Assessment Coach. Once an exam is cancelled, it cannot be added back in.
- Canceling AP exams when not enrolled in the course: Students who have opted to take an AP exam without being enrolled in the course will need to complete this form to cancel by May 3rd. This form is school based, so there is no need to contact our Assessment Coach separately. Once an exam is cancelled, it cannot be added back in.
There are three different administration periods for AP exams in 2021. Most testing will take place in Administration period 2 with some flexibility given to schools to help with social distancing. TJ has opted to use Administration period 1 for all foreign language exams and the Music Theory exam. These are all in person exams. Make-ups for all foreign language exams and Music Theory will only be done during Administration period 2.
Most exams offered during Administration period 2 are digital and will be completed at home (see list of exams below). Students who are not able to take a digital exam at home due to detrimental at-home testing environments may request to take their digital exam at school using this form by April 9th.
Eight AP exams offered during Administration period 2 are paper/pencil exams and must be completed in school (see list of exams below). If you are remaining virtual this year, have test conflicts, or other extenuating circumstances, you can request to take these exams digitally at home during Administration period 3 using this form. The request will need to be made by April 16.
**All forms require using the student’s fcpsschools.net account to access!**
