2020-10-08 Yearbook information – submit photos and order TJ publications package

Hello!

First, please allow me to thank you for your extreme patience with regards to name plate mailings. I had no idea how much time and energy setting up my virtual classroom and getting school up and running would take. I’ve had name plates in envelopes ready to go for weeks; all that was left was making sure I had all the addresses and getting this mail-merged document ready to go.

If you are a current TJ student, a few announcements:

  1. We WILL be holding school pictures – both for seniors and underclassmen – at TJ. I don’t have exact dates yet, but as soon as I do, I will let you know, but it should be before winter break. If you are unable to travel to TJ for your school picture, never fear. We will have options available so that you can both appear in the yearbook and receive a student ID.
  1. We WILL have a yearbook this year! The staff is hard at work and doing some pretty incredible things to make sure you will never forget the GOOD that comes out of this school year. To order your 2021 TJ Yearbook, visit www.yearbookordercenter.com and use school code 13621. You can also scan this QR code.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is TJ-yearbook-2020-QR.png
  1. With your purchase, you receive the yearbook, Threshold literary magazine, Teknos scientific journal, and a year of tjTODAY. Because no one is in the building to receive the print edition, we will be mailing hard copies to families who purchase a publications package. If you would like to receive a hard copy of tjTODAY, all you need to do is order your publications package by October 12. When you order, please fill in your mailing address so we know where to send your magazine! I’ll send out reminders monthly so you can begin to receive tjTODAY as soon as you make your yearbook purchase.
  1. Getting pictures for the yearbook this year will be…interesting. If you’d like to help us out, please consider submitting photos using this link: https://tinyurl.com/2021PhotoSubmission. Submission does not guarantee publication, but we greatly appreciate your support either way! We are looking mainly for candid photos; more info and “How-To’s” to come!

That’s all for now! Look to your class and TJ parent Facebook groups for more info. If you would like to receive Remind updates from TJ Media, please join our group on Remind: https://www.remind.com/join/tjmed.

As always, if you have questions, feel free to email me (EHarris1@fcps.edu).

Ms. Harris

2020-11-02 and 11-03 Student Holidays

Due to the transition between first and second quarter, along with Election Day, November 2 and 3 are teacher work days and non-school days for students, meaning they are not required to complete an attendance check and they cannot be required to participate in any synchronous or asynchronous work.

2020-10-30 Early Release Day (2 PM)

Because it is the end of first quarter, teachers need time to complete grading and prepare for the start of second quarter. Therefore, students are released from instruction two hours early. Fifth period will continue to start at 8:40 a.m. Classes will be approximately 70 minutes in length and 8th period dismisses at 2:00 p.m.

2020-10-29 PSATs for Juniors (GOOD LUCK!) – Asynchronous school day for other students

The PSAT will be administered in person on the TJ campus to juniors who have registered. Our Assessment Coach Ms. Broadhead will continue to communicate logistics to families and students. Please be aware that October 29 remains an instructional day and it will be asynchronous for grades 9, 10, and 12. Students in grade 11 who do not take the PSAT that day will continue to work independently.

2020-10-21 College Outreach Committee Meeting, 7:30-8:30 PM

Join: zoom.us/j/96425292721
It turns out that the PTSA meeting was also schedule for October 15. This meeting is being rescheduled for Wednesday, October 21 at 7:30pm.
All volunteers interested in college outreach activities are invited to attend. We are trying to find speakers (college admission officers, counselors, admission experts or others) to present on a monthly basis.
If you know someone who can speak on topics such as college admissions, scholarship and financial aid applications, career choices, campus life, etc., please let us know and join our 2020-21 kickoff meeting to discuss. This will be a virtual meeting. A Zoom link will be provided prior to the meeting. https://www.facebook.com/events/991172361331247

2020-10-15 Mental Health Coalition Meeting, 4:30-5:30

All parents, guardians, and students are invited to join the Mental Health Coalition, led by SGA and the student mental health group Minds Matter, and brings together students, administration, teachers, counselors and parents to coordinate mental health efforts for the TJ community. Video link available on the PTSA Google calendar. Meetings occur monthly on the 3rd Thursday, 4:30-5:30 PM.

2020-10-12 Senior Portrait Specifications

2021 TJHSST SENIOR PORTRAIT SPECIFICATIONS

We will be holding senior portrait sittings at TJHSST for the Class of 2021. You should have received an email from Prestige Portraits (a branch of LifeTouch, our official photographer), with instructions for scheduling an appointment. Here are our current dates:

  • 11/10 – 11/13, 3:30pm – 9pm
  • 12/5 – 9am – 3:30pm
  • 12/12 – 9am – 3:30pm
  • 12/19 – 9am – 3:30pm

You will schedule directly with Prestige Portraits, not with Ms. Harris.

DRESS: FCPS has decided that seniors WILL NOT be allowed to use the shared tuxes and drapes that used to be provided by Prestige. As a result, the TJ yearbook staff has decided that students may wear whatever they like, provided that the dress is more formal in nature. Solid colored dress shirts/tops work well for the camera; jackets and ties are optional. YOU DEFINITELY DO NOT NEED TO RENT SPECIAL CLOTHING. Here are some samples for outfit ideas:

Please understand that the “no shared clothing” rule is FCPS policy, not Prestige Portraits or TJHSST.

POSE: Head and shoulder shots ONLY. Hands should not be visible. No hats. No sport team logos. No props (i.e. sport equipment, toys, wigs, benches, chairs, etc.).

APPROXIMATE SIZE: The printed photo will be approximately 1 3/8” wide by 1 5/8” long. The head size is approximately 1” from the top of the head to the bottom of the chin.

FOR THIS YEAR ONLY: If you are uncomfortable traveling to TJ for your senior portrait for any reason, you are more than welcome to submit your own senior portrait. More information on how to submit coming in November. If you plan to take your own portrait, please make sure the photos meet the same specifications listed above.

DEADLINE: The yearbook staff must receive all photographs by January 8 in order for the picture to be included in the yearbook. Photos that do not fulfill the above requirements (including the submission deadline) will NOT be accepted.
