TJ Band Boosters

Mission

TJHSST Band Boosters represents a community that supports all aspects of TJ Bands.  Parents and guardians of students in any of our band and color guard groups are automatically members of the organization, and are warmly welcomed to participate in our activities.  The primary ways in which we support the students and staff of TJ Bands are volunteering time and skills, and fundraising.  Each year we set aside ¼ or more of our budget for financial aid to ensure that all students who want to participate in the extracurricular groups will not face a financial barrier.

Groups Supported

TJHSST Band Boosters supports the curricular and extracurricular programs of all TJ Bands:

  • Symphonic Band (2 class sections)
  • Symphonic Percussion (class)
  • Symphonic Wind Ensemble (class)
  • Percussion Ensemble (class)
  • Thomas Jefferson Marching Colonials / TJMC, our school’s marching band (extracurricular group)
  • Winter Drumline (extracurricular group)
  • Winter Color Guard (extracurricular group)
  • Jazz Ensemble (auditioned extracurricular group)
  • Jazz II (8th period club)

Upcoming Events

TJHSST Band Boosters typically meets the third Tuesday of each month.  For the 2020-2021 school year, meeting links are emailed to the families of all current students.

Our program calendar can be found at http://tjbands.org/2020-2021-program-calendars/.

Each year, our curricular ensembles present one concert per quarter.  In addition to this, the concert bands perform at an annual assessment event in the spring.  Many of our students audition for, and are accepted into, honor ensembles.  These include Senior Regional Orchestra, District Band, All-Virginia Jazz Band, All-Virginia Orchestra, and All-Virginia Band.

Each extracurricular group publishes its own calendar at the time of sign-ups.

Stay tuned for information about marching band opportunities for Winter/Spring 2021!

Our Plan for this Year

Band Booster meetings are conducted virtually for the 2020-2021 school year while learning remains virtual.  A meeting link is emailed to current band and color guard families each month.

Jazz Ensemble and Jazz II are currently meeting together during 8th period.  The students are working with our newly hired Jazz Specialist/Assistant Director.

When concurrent learning starts up, band class will meet with the band director, most likely in the auditorium.  FCPS will provide certain protective items for safe in-person group playing.  Band Boosters will provide additional items as needed.

TJ Bands is hoping for opportunities to create music together in person.  The Director of Bands is working with the Director of Student Activities to figure out logistics for pep band and marching band.
