Dear TJ Community,
The TJ PTSA is accepting self-nominations for Executive Committee (EC) officers for the 2023-2024 academic year. Volunteering to be a member of the PTSA Executive Team is a year long commitment to lead, shape and dedicate yourself to the continued growth of the TJ community. Our PTSA enjoys the support of hundreds of volunteers for activities hosted by our many committees, including Health and Wellness, College Outreach, and Diversity.
If you are interested in learning about how TJ works and proactively collaborating with TJ parents, students, faculty, and administration to develop enriching social, cultural, and educational experiences to further enhance academic curriculum at TJ while fostering the wellbeing of our TJ family; simply put, we NEED YOU!
In view of the above, we strongly encourage you to fill out this Google Form to self-nominate to serve on the 2023-2024 EC.
KEY DATES
- The deadline for nomination submissions is Sunday, April 09, 2023, 11:59PM EST.
- Virtual Interviews for prospective EC candidates will be conducted on April 11 -12, 2023.
- The TJ PTSA Nominating Committee will present its report and slate of recommended candidates to the membership at the general PTSA meeting on April 20, 2023.

Executive Committee Roles and Responsibilities
- President – Plan for and preside at all meetings of this PTSA. Coordinate the work of the officers and committees of this PTSA in order that the purposes may be promoted. Collaborate with other members of the Executive Committee and Executive Board to facilitate teamwork and collaborative decision-making. Represent PTSA to the community. Serve as a liaison with school administration or community partners. (Expected time commitment: 10 – 15 hours/week)
- Treasurer – Have custody of all funds and finances of the PTSA. Keep a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures. Make disbursements as authorized by the president, executive board, or general membership in accordance with the budget adopted by the general membership. Have checks or vouchers signed by two (2) officers, preferably the treasurer and the president. Present a written financial statement at every meeting of the PTSA and at other times when requested by the executive board. Prepare an annual financial report at the close of the fiscal year. Have the accounts examined according to the auditing procedures outlined in these bylaws. Submit a copy of the fiscal year-end audit report to the Virginia PTA. Submit a 990-N, 990-EZ, or 990 Form per IRS regulations. Remit Virginia PTA and National PTA dues for membership in adherence to state and national guidelines. (Expected Time Commitment: 20 hours/week)
- First Vice President – Oversee programming and events. Act as aide to the president. In their designated order, perform the duties of the president in the absence or inability to act. Act as liaison to school organizations and PTSA committees as agreed upon by the president. (Expected time commitment: 10 – 15 hours/week)
- Second Vice President – Primarily responsible for membership and fundraising. Propose and oversee implementation of efforts to increase membership and funds. Work with the Third VP of Communications to promote fundraising and membership initiatives. Serve as the primary account owner and system administrator for AtoZ, or any other membership and fundraising software selected by the Executive Committee. Act as aide to the president. In their designated order, perform the duties of the president in the absence or inability to act. Act as liaison to school organizations and PTSA committees as agreed upon by the president. (Expected time commitment: 10-15 hours/week)
- Third Vice President – Primarily responsible for communications including This Week @ TJ. Ensure that the PTSA website is up-to-date, and coordinate with the Webmaster, as needed. Conduct such correspondence as assigned. Work with the Executive Committee and Executive Board to set communications goals and strategies for the year. Serve as backup account owner and system administrator for AtoZ, or any other communications software selected by the Executive Committee. Perform the duties of the secretary in the absence or inability of that officer to act. Act as a liaison to TJHSST PTSA committees as agreed upon by the President. (Expected Time Commitment: 10-15 hours/week)
- Secretary – Record the minutes of all meetings of the PTSA. Keep the official copy of the PTSA bylaws in his/her files. Count and record meeting votes. Work with the president to create meeting agendas. Maintain a membership list as required by the Virginia PTA. Oversee meeting registration. Act as a liaison to TJHSST PTSA committees as agreed upon by the President. (Expected time commitment: 5-10 hours/week)
