Happy 2025 everyone! TJ Bands is proud to share some great news! We received our Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) State Assessment results and TJ Marching Band was graded a “Superior” Rating, which is the highest one available. There were 5 judges -2 for Music Performance, 1 for Music Effect, 1 for Visual Performance, and 1 for Visual Effect- and all awarded Superior Ratings across all judged subcategories. We submitted a video of our Finals performance at Liberty University for this assessment..
This rating of our Marching Band, the Thomas Jefferson Marching Colonials, will be combined with the VBODA Assessment Rating of our highest-level concert ensemble at the Assessment concert in March. In our case, that is the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, who will be performing on a Grade VI level. A Superior Rating for both marching band and concert (minimum Grade IV level) are required to earn the distinction of “Virginia Honor Band”, which we have received each of the last 3 years, and 11 times total in (Science and Tech) School history.
