Some parents have asked to see the material that was taught in the March 19 SEL lesson. Some of the material is attached below, so you can review most of it. There were additional materials that were not released to the TJ PTSA, including a video on Intersectionality and interviews with members of the TJ Alumni Action Group (TJAAG).
This type of critical race theory lesson is recommended in the TJAAG September 2020 report (page 6, 2nd column). The President of the TJAAG, which is a political lobbying organization, serves as a director on the board of the TJ Partnership Fund, which is a charitable organization.
If you would like your student to be opted out of the rest of the SEL lessons, for whatever reason (some may not appreciate the material presented, some students may want to have their 8th period time for their normal purpose), Dr. Bonitatibus has provided a streamlined process for doing so.
From Dr. Bonitatibus’ email:
Finally, if a parent wants a child to opt out of SEL lessons and/or participation in homeroom activities through June 2021, parents may submit an email request to the Department of Student Services at tjhsstdss@fcps.edu. This path is more streamlined at this time of the year since the form you reference in the link is more comprehensive about counseling services and may inadvertently signal broader counseling opt-out than intended.
If you have feedback (positive or negative) on the material being taught please provide it to your policymakers and the TJ administration.
